Welcome to the ICWHS
The Illiana Civil War Historical Society (ICWHS) was founded in 1985 in Danville, Illinois, for the purpose of preserving, protecting and portraying the history and lives of civil war soldiers and families that were from the state of Illinois. We work with different groups and museums who are planning or in need of a program, living history display, or educational program from elementary to college level.
The main purpose of the Historical Society is to portray civil war soldiers and families through reenactments and living histories. Some of the members have been in movies and television programs dealing with the civil war, such as, "The Blue & The Gray", "North & South", "Gettysburg", and "Glory". To this extent, we have formed several units in which everyone has a chance to do a branch of either army that fought in the civil war.
Our organization was formed as a non-profit organization and designated as a 501c3 organization by the state of Illinois and federal taxing bodies.
